Lithia

Lithia was founded in the 1800s, bearing the name of the element, Lithium Oxide that was discovered in the water at Lithia Springs. The town has a rich history in agriculture, saw mills, mining and phosphate.

Lithia Springs is host to a wide variety of wildlife from birds, snakes and amphibians to the diverse listing of fish below the water, including Blue Tilapia, Redbreast Sunfish, Atlantic Needlefish, Mullet, River Snail, Blue Crab, Florida Largemouth Bass, Spotted Sunfish and Bluegill. Often referred to as inland reefs, the colorful and abundant amount of underwater animals present a host of interesting wildlife. Below the surface of Lithia Springs, the inhabitants are quite often seasonal visitors, traveling from the ocean and up the rivers. The sea life migrates to the constant warm temperatures that the springs provide during the winter, returning to the Gulf of Mexico in the summer.

Lithia and nearby Tampa offers plenty of great events planned year-round. Traditional events include The Gasparilla Parade, a mock pirate invasion that has taken place for over a century. Visit the Florida State Fair, the Sant'Yago Illuminated Night Parade in Ybor City, or the original Guavaween Parade and Festival around Halloween. If you enjoy sports, the Outback Bowl provides championship NCAA football in January. Or, take the family to enjoy large amounts of the "World's Best Strawberry Shortcake” in Plant City's Florida Strawberry Festival.

Lithia presents residents with a vast selection of attractions to enjoy, all within a short drive, including Busch Gardens and Adventure Island, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, the Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa Museum of Art, Salvador Dali Museum, Hillsborough River State Park and the downtown Tampa Channelside retail complex. One can enjoy the white sands and turquoise waters of the nearby beaches, to play on water toys or enjoy a stroll on the boulevard at sunset. Lithia offers plenty of recreational activities to suit any mood.

Whether it's the diverse recreational opportunities, the friendly people or the beautiful weather, Lithia and the surrounding communities afford a quality of life second to none. With a combination of quiet living among nature, the culture and events of nearby Tampa, and the year round events; residents can experience the best of both worlds.
